Close your eyes for a moment and imagine the presence of a giant mastodon or ground sloth standing alongside you. For the Clovis people who inhabited this area of Missouri 12,000 years ago, seeing one in real life was a distinct possibility, and no doubt, something of awe. At Mastodon State Historic Site, you can walk where these ancient peoples and animals once roamed.
Our visit will include two hikes: the first, on Limestone Hill Trail, will get your blood pumping as we follow a looped path up to higher elevations and back down again, while the second, a short easy loop, will lead us down to Rock Creek, a spring-fed stream perfect for wading and relaxing those hiking muscles. Afterward, feel free to visit the Site's excellent Museum which costs only $4 to access (free for 12 and under) and displays remains found onsite.
HIKE FIVE is led by KAMP Counselor Mandi. Please come out and show your support!
Kids are always welcome.
